Tomie DePaola
Tomie DePaola is a picture book author and illustrator. He was born in Connecticut in 1934. He has three siblings. When Tomie was a child, he wanted to write books, draw, sing and tap dance.
Tomie DePaola is a very creative person. His books are creative. He writes mostly fiction books. However, most of his books are fantasy. He always uses bright colors and simple backgrounds when he is illustrating.
Tomie wrote and illustrated over 200 books which include: The Strega Nona series, Adelita, Tomie DePaola’s Mother Goose, The Baby Sister, Stagestruck, Nana Downstairs and Nana Upstairs, Bonjour Mr. Satie, The Art Lesson, The Popcorn Book and a lot more!
He won the Caldecott honor for Strega Nona, The New Hampshire Governor’s Arts Award of Living Treasure, and The Newberry Honor for 26 Fairmount Avenue.
He lives in his 200 year old barn in New Hampshire.
